The Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre in Darjeeling, established in 1959, serves as a vital rehabilitation center for Tibetan refugees who fled their homeland following the Chinese invasion. It is known for its traditional handicrafts, including exquisite woolen carpets, wood carvings, leatherwork, and handwoven textiles—all crafted by skilled Tibetan artisans. Visitors can explore the workshops, museum, and photo gallery that chronicle Tibet’s rich cultural heritage and the refugees' journey. The center not only preserves Tibetan art and culture but also supports the livelihoods of the refugee community through education, health care, and vocational training.
