About Tenzing Rock HMI

Tenzing Rock, located in Darjeeling, is a popular natural rock formation used for rock-climbing training by the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI). Named after the legendary mountaineer Tenzing Norgay, one of the first two people to summit Mount Everest, the rock serves as a tribute to his legacy and a challenge for aspiring climbers. This steep granite face provides both beginners and seasoned climbers with real rock climbing experience in a controlled environment. The western face is typically used by professionals, while the easier eastern face is ideal for amateurs. Visitors can also watch live training sessions conducted by HMI cadets, making it an educational stop for tourists. Located along Lebong Cart Road, Tenzing Rock is a must-visit for adventure lovers and those interested in mountaineering heritage.
