About Peace Pagoda, Darjeeling

Perched on the slopes of Darjeeling's Jalapahar Hill, the Peace Pagoda is a striking white stupa symbolizing global harmony and spiritual unity. Conceived by Japanese Buddhist monk Nichidatsu Fujii, a disciple of Mahatma Gandhi, its foundation was laid in 1972 and completed in 1992. Standing at 28.5 meters, it houses four gilded statues of Buddha, each representing pivotal moments of his life. Intricate sandstone carvings narrate tales from Buddha's journey, inviting reflection and reverence. Adjacent lies the Japanese Temple, where rhythmic drumming and chants offer a meditative ambiance. Open daily from 4:30 AM to 7:00 PM, the pagoda also offers panoramic views of the Kanchenjunga range, making it a serene haven for both spiritual seekers and nature enthusiasts.
