Mawlynnong Village is a small village in East Khasi Hills, known for its clean surroundings and organised layout. It has narrow walking paths, bamboo houses, and community-managed waste systems. The village is designed for short visits with fixed walking routes and basic viewing points.
The Village is usually visited along with nearby spots like Dawki and the living root bridges in Meghalaya tour packages. Travellers walk through the village lanes and visit the sky view tower. The more time you spend here, the more you become attached to it. Stay here with your family or loved ones so you can feel the divine energy of nature.
Mawlynnong gained attention after being called the “cleanest village in Asia.” The credit goes to the local Khasi community, who follow strict cleanliness rules and maintain waste systems at a household level.
The village reflects a simple lifestyle where tourism is controlled and community-led. Visitors are expected to follow local rules, which helps maintain the same level of cleanliness over time.
