About Matrimandir

Matrimandir, located at the heart of Auroville, Tamil Nadu, is a golden sphere symbolizing the birth of a new consciousness. Envisioned by Mirra Alfassa ("The Mother") and designed by architect Roger Anger, it serves as the "soul of the city" . The structure, completed in 2008 after nearly four decades of construction, features a central crystal globe illuminated by sunlight, surrounded by twelve gardens representing qualities like peace, progress, and harmony . Matrimandir is not a place of worship but a space for individual meditation and inner exploration, devoid of religious rituals .
