The Mahabalipuram Lighthouse, located in the historic town of Mahabalipuram (Mamallapuram) in Tamil Nadu, is a striking coastal beacon that offers a glimpse into both maritime history and ancient architecture. Standing tall since 1904, this granite structure overlooks the Bay of Bengal and provides panoramic views of the shoreline and surrounding monuments. Adjacent to it lies an older lighthouse, built by the Pallavas in the 7th century, which served as a watchtower. The lighthouse is a perfect blend of colonial-era engineering and Dravidian heritage, making it a favorite among history buffs and photographers. Climbing to the top rewards visitors with breathtaking vistas of UNESCO-listed rock-cut temples and the serene beach below.
