About Kurinji Andavar Temple

The Kurinji Andavar Temple in Kodaikanal is a revered Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Muruga, the "God of the Hills." Located approximately 3 km from Kodaikanal Lake, the temple offers panoramic views of the Palani Hills and Vaigai Dam The temple is renowned for its association with the rare Kurinji flower (Strobilanthes kunthiana), which blooms once every 12 years, carpeting the hills in vibrant purple hues. The last bloom occurred in 2018, with the next expected in 2030 Established in 1936 by Leelavathi Ramanathan, a European woman who embraced Hinduism, the temple was later donated to the Palani Andavar Temple by her granddaughter and her husband Visitors can enjoy a serene atmosphere, spiritual ambiance, and breathtaking natural beauty. The temple is open daily from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and there is no entry fee .
