About Durpin Monastery

Durpin Monastery, also known as Zang Dhok Palri Phodang, is a prominent Tibetan Buddhist monastery situated atop Durpin Hill in Kalimpong, West Bengal. Established in the 1970s by Dudjom Rinpoche and consecrated by the Dalai Lama in 1976, it serves as a vital center for the Nyingma school of Buddhism. The monastery houses 108 volumes of the Kangyur, sacred Buddhist scriptures brought from Tibet, along with rare texts and artifacts. Visitors are captivated by its traditional Tibetan architecture, intricate murals, and serene ambiance. From its vantage point at 1,372 meters, the monastery offers panoramic views of the Himalayas, including the majestic Kanchenjunga, making it a spiritual and scenic haven.
