About Batasia Loop

Batasia Loop, located 5 km from Darjeeling near Ghum, is a remarkable spiral railway built in 1919 to help the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway navigate a steep descent. This engineering marvel allows the toy train to complete a graceful 360-degree loop, offering panoramic views of Darjeeling town and the majestic Kanchenjunga range. At the center lies the Gorkha War Memorial, honoring soldiers who sacrificed their lives post-independence. Surrounded by lush gardens and vibrant flora, Batasia Loop is not only a testament to ingenious design but also a serene spot for reflection and photography.
