About Tawang Monastery

Tawang Monastery, Arunachal Pradesh, located in the picturesque Tawang district, is one of the largest Buddhist monasteries in India and the second-largest in the world. Perched at an altitude of about 10,000 feet, the monastery overlooks stunning valleys and snow-capped peaks of the Eastern Himalayas. Known locally as “Galden Namgyal Lhatse,” meaning the “celestial paradise in a clear night,” this 17th-century monastery is a spiritual haven that radiates peace, devotion, and breathtaking beauty.
