The rock is steeped in local legend. According to Khasi mythology, Lum Symper and its counterpart, Lum Kyllang, were once deities who engaged in a fierce battle. The legend suggests that Lum Symper emerged victorious, and the marks of their conflict are still visible in the landscape today.
Visitors to Symper Rock can enjoy a relatively easy trek to the summit, where they are rewarded with breathtaking views and a sense of tranquility. The site is open year-round, with the best time to visit being during the dry months from October to March.
