Kodaikanal does not have a traditional zoo. However, the Kodaikanal Wildlife Sanctuary, established in 2013, serves as a protected area for diverse flora and fauna native to the Western Ghats. Spanning over 700 km², it encompasses shola forests, grasslands, and valleys, providing a natural habitat for species like Indian bison, Nilgiri langur, and various birds. The sanctuary offers opportunities for eco-tourism activities such as trekking and bird watching, allowing visitors to experience wildlife in its natural setting. Managed by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department, the sanctuary emphasizes conservation and sustainable tourism.
