About Royal Textile Museum

The Royal Textile Museum (part of the Royal Textile Academy) in Thimphu, Bhutan, celebrates the nation’s rich weaving heritage. Established in 2001 under royal patronage, the museum educates visitors on traditional garments, weaving techniques, and cultural significance . Spread over two floors, the upper gallery houses permanent displays of indigenous fibers and warp/weft patterns, while the lower gallery hosts rotating themed exhibitions . It showcases rare royal pieces—crowns, ceremonial ghos and kiras, thangkas, and relics—alongside live weaving demonstrations . The museum also features a conservation center employing global standards, such as anoxic storage and artifact restoration . It’s both a cultural treasure and vibrant learning center for Bhutanese textile arts

This was my first international trip and Bhutan turned out to be the perfect destination. The itinerary was well-balanced with nature and culture.
