Pho Chhu, meaning "Male River," is one of Bhutan’s major rivers flowing through the scenic Paro Valley. Originating from the northern Himalayas near the Bhutan-Tibet border, it merges with the Mo Chhu ("Female River") near Punakha to form the Punatsang Chhu. Pho Chhu is renowned for its crystal-clear waters, rich biodiversity, and importance to Bhutan’s agriculture and hydroelectric power generation. The river’s banks are dotted with historic landmarks, including the famous Punakha Dzong, which lies at its confluence. Pho Chhu holds cultural and spiritual significance, symbolizing the harmony between nature and Bhutanese heritage in this pristine Himalayan region.
