If you want to see Khasi culture at its most traditional, Nongkrem Festival is the one to attend. It happens once a year in Smit village near Shillong. Smit village is just 11 kilometres from Shillong. The drive takes around 20 minutes. Most Meghalaya tour packages do not highlight this enough. It runs for five days every November.
