Liat Prah Cave is one of the longest cave systems in South Asia. It runs for over 31 kilometers underground in the Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya. Unlike tourist caves built for regular visitors, Liat Prah remains mostly natural and less developed. Early winter and spring are suitable for visiting Liat Prah Cave. Plan your visit between November and April. Start cave exploration during morning hours, preferably before noon. Avoid the monsoon season, as underground water levels rise quickly after rainfall. The temperature stays around this time of year, approximately 15–25°C.
Liat Prah Cave is 117 kilometers from Shillong via Jowai town. The drive takes around 4 hours. Private cabs charge ₹2,500 to ₹3,000 for the full trip. No public transport runs directly to Shnongrim village. Hiring a local guide from Jowai town is strongly recommended before heading to the cave.
