Drukgyel Dzong, located in the upper Paro Valley of Bhutan, is a historic fortress built in 1649 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to commemorate Bhutan’s victory over Tibetan invaders. Once a powerful symbol of defense and unity, the dzong was strategically positioned to control entry into the Paro Valley. Though largely destroyed by fire in 1951, its ruins remain a significant cultural and historical site. Restoration work began in recent years to preserve its legacy. Surrounded by scenic views and with the majestic Jomolhari mountain visible in the distance, Drukgyel Dzong stands as a proud reminder of Bhutan’s resilient past
