About Changangkha Lhakhang

Changangkha Lhakhang is a revered ancient temple perched on a ridge overlooking Thimphu, Bhutan. Built in the 12th century by Lama Phajo Drugom Shigpo, it is one of the oldest temples in the Thimphu Valley. Dedicated to Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, the temple houses a striking statue of the deity and sacred scriptures written in gold. It is a popular site for local parents to bring their newborns for blessings and names. With traditional Bhutanese architecture, prayer wheels, and panoramic valley views, Changangkha Lhakhang offers a spiritual experience deeply rooted in Bhutanese culture and daily religious life.
