Brienz is a Swiss village on Lake Brienz in the Bernese Oberland. It is named Brienz because of its location beside Lake Brienz. Known for its wooden chalets and woodcarving tradition since the 19th century, it evolved from a fishing and farming community into a popular tourist destination in the 1800s.

Located on the northeastern shore of Lake Brienz in the Bernese Oberland region, Brienz is a Swiss village that has the essence of traditional mountain life. The village is basically located beside Lake Brienz and the mountains which is why, the village is named Brienz. This town, with its wooden chalets and flowered balconies, has been a center of woodcarving since the 19th century. 

Originally a fishing and farming community, Brienz transformed when tourism began flourishing in the 1800s. The historic Brienz Rothorn Railway, dating back to 1892, remains one of the few steam-powered rack railways still operating in Switzerland.

Best Time to Visit Brienz:

The best time to visit Brienz is between June and September when the weather is mild and all attractions operating well. The Rothorn Railway runs from June to October. For fewer crowds but still pleasant conditions, try May or late September. Winter (December-February) is also good for snow lovers, especially around Christmas.
