About Matrimandir

The Matrimandir, located at the heart of Auroville in Tamil Nadu, India, is a symbol of spiritual significance and inner reflection. Often called the "soul of the city," it was envisioned by Mirra Alfassa (The Mother), the spiritual collaborator of Sri Aurobindo. The structure is a striking golden sphere surrounded by 12 petals, representing the universal values of peace, harmony, and unity. Designed for silent meditation, the inner chamber features a pristine white ambiance with a crystal globe at its center that reflects natural sunlight. The Matrimandir is not affiliated with any religion but is dedicated to the idea of human unity and inner growth.
