Lady Hydari Park is a public park located in the centre of Shillong. Known for its gardens, walking paths, and small zoo area, the park is mostly visited by families and residents. The space is well-maintained and designed for short visits rather than full-day sightseeing. It is also known as Phan Nonglait Park; its name was recently changed by the officials. If someone called it by this name, don't be shocked.
The park is commonly included in Meghalaya tour packages covering Shillong city attractions. Unlike waterfalls and trekking spots, this place offers a slower break within the city. Visitors usually come here for short walks, photography, and time around the flower gardens, especially during clear weather and weekends.
Lady Hydari Park was named after Lady Hydari, the wife of Sir Akbar Hydari, who served as the Governor of Assam during the British period. The park was developed as a recreational space for the public in Shillong.
Over time, it became one of the well-known parks in Meghalaya because of its landscaped gardens and small zoo section. The design reflects a mix of Japanese-style garden planning with open green spaces used by both locals and tourists visiting Shillong.
Visit between October and April for clearer weather and comfortable walks. Morning hours from 8 AM to 11 AM are quieter, so it is considered best. Avoid heavy monsoon days, as outdoor sections and walking paths become wet and muddy. But some travellers prefer the monsoon season from June to September. The season is best to see lush green mountains and water flow.
Lady Hydari Park is located around 2 km from Police Bazaar via Soso Tham Road. From Shilong airport to Police Bazar is 30 km. It will take almost 1 hour. The local taxis and cabs are available easily here. It will cost you
