About Kodaikanal Lake

Kodaikanal Lake, also known as Kodai Lake, is a man-made, star-shaped lake situated in the heart of Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu. Constructed in 1863 by Sir Vere Henry Levinge, the then Collector of Madurai, the lake spans 60 acres and is surrounded by a 5 km tarred road, making it a central attraction in the hill station. The lake offers various recreational activities such as boating, cycling, and horse riding. Visitors can choose from pedal boats, rowing boats, and even Kashmiri shikaras. Cycling around the lake provides a scenic experience, while horse rides add to the charm. Adjacent to the lake is Bryant Park, a botanical garden known for its vibrant floral displays, especially during the annual flower show held in May. The area also features local markets offering handmade chocolates, snacks, and souvenirs. Boating services are available from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with entry fees typically around ₹10 for adults. Kodaikanal Lake remains a serene getaway, attracting tourists with its natural beauty and array of activities. Whether it's a peaceful boat ride or a leisurely walk around the lake, it offers a refreshing experience amidst the hills.
