Khab Bridge is located in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. Near the meeting point of the Spiti and Sutlej rivers. The bridge sits between steep mountain roads and deep valleys, making it one of the most noticeable stops on the route towards Spiti Valley. The landscape here feels harsher and drier compared to other parts of Himachal.
Khab Sangam is 115 kilometres from Kaza in the Spiti Valley. The drive takes around three hours on narrow mountain roads. Most travellers cover this as part of a Spiti Valley circuit. Spiti tour packages that include the Spiti route almost always pass through Khab. It is not a standalone destination. It is a highlight on the way.
Khab Bridge is important because it marks the confluence of the Spiti and Sutlej rivers in the Kinnaur region. The bridge connects major mountain routes used by travellers moving towards Nako, Tabo, and the Spiti Valley.
Over time, the location became popular among road trip travellers because of its rugged terrain and dramatic mountain setting. The surrounding roads were historically part of difficult trade and travel routes connecting remote Himalayan villages across Himachal Pradesh.
May to October is the best time. Roads remain open, and the weather stays manageable for high-altitude driving. Visit between 9 AM and 4 PM to avoid low visibility in the evenings. Avoid winter completely, as roads close due to heavy snowfall, and the entire route becomes inaccessible from November to April.
A drive of around 220 km from Shimla takes 8 to 10 hours by road. The bridge lies on the Hindustan-Tibet Highway route towards Spiti Valley and is usually reached by private cab or self-drive vehicles.

Khab Bridge is famous for being one of the highest motorable bridges in the world. It is located in Himachal Pradesh, where the Spiti and Sutlej rivers meet. The colour contrast between the two rivers visible from the bridge is what draws most travellers here.
The Spiti River and the Sutlej River meet at Khab Sangam. The confluence is clearly visible from the bridge above. The Spiti water appears muddy brown, while the Sutlej runs greenish blue. Both rivers flow side by side without mixing immediately after the confluence point.
Khab Sangam is known for three things. One, the confluence of the Spiti and Sutlej rivers. Two, one of the highest motorable bridges in the world. Three, its extreme remoteness in upper Kinnaur. It falls on the Hindustan Tibet Road connecting Shimla to the Tibet border.
Khab Sangam is 200 kilometres from Rekong Peo in Kinnaur district. Drive via the Hindustan Tibet Road. The journey takes around four hours. No public transport runs here. A private cab or self-driven vehicle is the only practical way to reach Khab Sangam.
May to October is the best time. Roads stay open, and weather remains manageable during this period. Avoid November to April, when heavy snowfall closes the entire route completely. September and October offer clear skies and less traffic compared to the peak summer months of June and July.
