About Horton Plains National Park

Horton Plains National Park, perched between 2,100 m and 2,300 m in Sri Lanka’s central highlands, is a stunning UNESCO World Heritage site spanning about 31 km². This misty plateau of montane grasslands and cloud forests is a biodiversity hotspot, sheltering endemic wildlife such as sambar deer, the elusive slender loris, purple-faced langurs, leopards, and over 130 bird species including the Sri Lanka blue magpie and dull-blue flycatcher. The iconic 9 km circular trail leads hikers to breathtaking highlights like “World’s End” (an 880 m cliff drop) and the scenic 20 m Baker’s Falls. With dramatic landscapes, ecological importance as the source of three major rivers, and a cool, ever-changing climate, Horton Plains offers an unforgettable experience for nature lovers and adventurers.
