Langza Tour Packages

Langza Village, perched at 14,500 feet in Spiti Valley, is widely known as the Fossil Village of India and is a highlight in most Spiti Valley Packages. Once part of an ancient seabed, the village is rich in marine fossils dating back millions of years, making fossil hunting a popular activity with local guides. With a population of around 150 people, Langza is defined by traditional mud houses, barley and pea farms, and warm Spitian hospitality. The iconic Buddha statue overlooking the village against the dramatic backdrop of Pin Valley is one of the most photographed sights in Spiti, while clear views of Chau Chau Kang Nilda peak add to its visual appeal. Visitors can also observe traditional black pottery making and experience authentic local life through homestays.

Langza is open year round with no entry fee, though guided fossil tours typically cost INR 500 to 1000 per person. The best time to visit is July to September for comfortable weather, while winters are extremely cold but visually striking. Due to high altitude, spending a day acclimatizing in Kaza is essential before visiting. Accommodation is mainly through basic homestays offering local meals, and connectivity is limited with only occasional BSNL service. The village is about a two hour drive from Kaza via shared or private taxis, and travellers should carry warm layers, walking shoes, sunscreen, power banks, and sufficient cash as there are no ATMs in Langza.
