Hikkim Tour Packages

Hikkim, located in Spiti Valley at an altitude of 14,567 feet, is globally known for housing the world’s highest post office, operational since 1983 and serving as a vital link for nearby villages. Often included in Spiti Valley Packages, this remote settlement offers travellers a rare chance to send postcards stamped from one of the highest functioning post offices on Earth. Surrounded by dramatic Himalayan landscapes, traditional mud houses, and fluttering Buddhist prayer flags, Hikkim reflects authentic high altitude living where locals cultivate crops like peas and potatoes despite extreme conditions. Visitors can also enjoy sweeping mountain views and take a short trip to the historic 11th century Ki Monastery, one of the most important spiritual centers in Spiti.

The Hikkim Post Office operates from 10 AM to 4 PM, Monday to Saturday, with no entry fee, though winter schedules may vary and heavy snowfall often restricts access from November to March. The best time to visit is June to September when roads remain open and weather is relatively stable. Due to the high altitude, acclimatization is essential, along with hydration and slow movement. There are no hotels in Hikkim, so most travellers stay in Kaza about 25 km away, with limited homestays available on prior arrangement. Connectivity is minimal with occasional BSNL service, there are no ATMs nearby, and visitors should carry warm layers, sunscreen, and sufficient cash for the journey.
