About Dirang
Dirang is a serene mountain town in Arunachal Pradesh, nestled between Bomdila and Tawang at an altitude of around 1,500 meters. Surrounded by lush valleys, snow-capped peaks, and the flowing Dirang River, it offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, hot springs, and Monpa tribal culture. Often included in Northeast travel itineraries, Dirang is known for attractions like Dirang Dzong, a traditional stone fort village showcasing old architecture and local lifestyle, the soothing Dirang Hot Water Springs, and Sangti Valley, a peaceful stretch famous for black-necked cranes during winter. Apple orchards, sheep farms, and scenic river views add to its charm, making it ideal for a quiet and refreshing mountain stay.
The best time to visit Dirang is from March to June and September to November for pleasant weather, while winters can be very cold with occasional snowfall. Dirang is accessible by road from Tezpur and Guwahati, with Tezpur Airport being the nearest air connection. Accommodation includes homestays and small hotels offering a warm local experience. Travellers should carry warm clothing throughout the year, respect local Monpa traditions, and plan road journeys carefully due to hilly terrain and changing weather conditions.
