About Shipra River

The Shipra River, also known as the Kshipra, is a sacred river in central India, flowing through the historic city of Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh. Revered in Hindu mythology, the river holds immense religious significance and is closely associated with Lord Shiva. It originates from the Kakri Bardi hills in the Vindhya Range and eventually merges with the Chambal River. The Shipra is most famous for hosting the Kumbh Mela, one of the world’s largest religious gatherings, held every 12 years in Ujjain. Pilgrims believe bathing in its holy waters washes away sins and grants spiritual liberation. Several ghats and temples, like the Ram Ghat and Mahakaleshwar Temple, line its banks, attracting thousands of devotees year-round. The Shipra River is not just a water body—it is a symbol of faith, culture, and spirituality.
