Nusa Dua is Bali’s purpose-built luxury resort enclave, located on the southeastern tip of the Bukit Peninsula, 22 km from Denpasar and 15 minutes from the airport. Covering 350 hectares of landscaped coastline, the gated zone holds over 20 five-star resorts, a 7-km beachfront promenade, two international convention centres, Museum Pasifika, the Water Blow natural phenomenon, and a reef-protected beach with calm, swimmable water year-round. Because of its unfiltered beauty and uniqueness, it is a major inclusion of Bali tour packages that prioritise comfort, beach access, and safety in one contained area. Especially if you are planning a honeymoon in Bali, you should not miss Nusa Dua, the most professionally managed resort destination on the island.
The Indonesian government deliberately created Nusa Dua to concentrate luxury tourism in one place and protect the rest of Bali, particularly its farming villages, temples, and rice terraces, from uncontrolled overdevelopment. The enclave directly employs thousands of local Balinese across hospitality, retail, and cultural services.
For tourism, Nusa Dua is Southeast Asia's leading MICE destination, having hosted the G20 Summit in 2022, the IMF-World Bank Annual Meeting in 2018, APEC in 2013, and the ASEAN Summit. In 2004, it became the first community resort zone in the Asia Pacific to receive Green Globe certification, and it continues to be ranked among the world's best-planned resort destinations.
Before the 1970s, the Bukit Peninsula area that became Nusa Dua was a dry, populated stretch of coastal limestone with soil too thin for farming. In 1969, the Indonesian government commissioned a study recommending that luxury hotels be concentrated in one designated zone, protecting Bali's cultural heartland from the pressure of mass tourism.
The Bali Tourism Development Corporation (BTDC) was established in 1973 with World Bank funding, tasked with building infrastructure, roads, power, water, and a security system in Nusa Dua, and then hotels were permitted. The zone's first hotel opened in 1983, and international chains followed through the 1980s and 1990s, and it kept growing to become the tourist destination it is now.
The best time to visit Nusa Dua is during the dry season from April to October. You will experience the most reliable sunshine, warm temperatures averaging 28°C - 32°C, and calm, swimmable ocean waters perfect for water sports.
Entry Fee & Timings
Reaching Nusa Dua is highly straightforward, as it is located just 12–15 kilometers (about a 30–40 minute drive) south of Ngurah Rai International Airport (Denpasar Airport). Because Nusa Dua is an exclusive, gated resort enclave, private transfers and pre-booked rides are the most efficient and comfortable way to arrive.
Grab or Gojek from the airport costs ₹470–575. The Bali Collection shopping complex inside the zone runs a free shuttle to most resort hotels within the enclave.
