Nainital Zoo, officially known as Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant High Altitude Zoo, is perched at 2,100 meters on Sher Ka Danda hill in Nainital, Uttarakhand. Established in 1984 and opened to the public in 1995, it spans 4.6 hectares and is among India's few high-altitude zoos. The zoo houses endangered Himalayan species like the Royal Bengal Tiger, Red Panda, Himalayan Black Bear, Tibetan Wolf, and various pheasants. Surrounded by oak and cypress forests, it offers a serene environment for wildlife conservation and education. The zoo operates from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM, closed on Thursdays, and remains polythene-free to promote eco-friendliness.
