About Lingaraja Temple

Lingaraja Temple, located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, is one of the oldest and most revered Hindu temples in India. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it represents a fine example of Kalinga architecture, dating back to the 11th century. The temple complex features intricately carved structures, a towering 180-foot spire, and over 50 shrines within its expansive courtyard. Lingaraja, meaning "King of Lingas," combines Shaivism and aspects of Vaishnavism, showcasing Odisha's syncretic religious culture. Non-Hindus are not permitted inside the temple, but the grandeur can be viewed from a platform outside. It remains a vital center for worship and cultural heritage.
