About Juma Mosque

Nestled in the heart of Icheri Sheher, the historic Juma Mosque is a must-visit for anyone exploring Baku. Dating back to the 12th century, the mosque has witnessed centuries of history, from Seljuk architectural influences to traces of a Zoroastrian temple. Its square-shaped worship hall, intricately carved stone decorations, and the 15th-century stalactite minaret make it a striking landmark and a photographer’s dream.

Over the centuries, the mosque has served many purposes, from a madrasa for religious education to a Soviet-era carpet museum. Its revival in the 1990s restored it as a vibrant place of worship, preserving its spiritual significance and historical charm.

The 2008 restoration added hand-crafted Quranic inscriptions and exquisite decorations, enhancing its artistic appeal. Many Baku tour packages include the Juma Mosque, allowing visitors to experience its history, beauty, and serene atmosphere, a truly unforgettable stop in the Old City.

About Tickets/Entry Fees

The entry fee for Juma Mosques varies. In Delhi, foreigners pay ₹400, Indians enter free; photography costs ₹300, minaret access ₹100. Other mosques, like Cheraman Juma, usually allow free entry.
