About Indus River

The Indus River is one of Asia’s mightiest rivers and has been the lifeline of civilizations for thousands of years. Starting from the Tibetan Plateau near Lake Manasarovar, this massive river flows through the landscapes of Ladakh, creating deep gorges and valleys before entering Pakistan. What makes it super special is that it’s not just any river – it’s the reason why India got its name! The ancient Greeks called India ‘Indos’ after this very river.

If you’re planning your Leh Ladakh Tour Packages, the Indus River will be your constant companion. You’ll keep spotting it throughout your road trip, and the region’s most beautiful spots, with its blue-green waters creating perfect photo opportunities. The river valley is home to some of Ladakh’s oldest monasteries and villages, where people have lived and farmed for generations, making it a living piece of history.
