Gurudwara Shri Pathar Sahib, situated approximately 25 km from Leh on the Leh-Kargil Highway, is a revered Sikh shrine commemorating Guru Nanak Dev Ji's visit to Ladakh in 1517. According to legend, while meditating here, Guru Nanak was attacked by a demon who rolled a massive boulder towards him. Miraculously, the rock softened upon contact, leaving an imprint of the Guru's back, which remains visible today. Rediscovered during road construction in the 1960s, the site was preserved and a gurudwara was established with support from the Indian Army and local communities. Maintained jointly by the Indian Army and local caretakers, the gurudwara offers langar (community meals) and reflects a harmonious blend of Sikh and Buddhist traditions, symbolizing unity and peace in the region.
