Gomukh Glacier, situated at an altitude of 4,000 meters in Uttarakhand’s Gangotri National Park, is the origin of the Bhagirathi River, which later merges with the Alaknanda to form the sacred Ganga River. The glacier derives its name from its cow-like snout (Gomukh), from where the river emerges.
This glacier holds immense spiritual importance, as it is closely associated with the Ganga’s divine descent to Earth, as mentioned in Hindu mythology. Many pilgrims include Gomukh in their journey as part of Chardham Yatra packages, making it a revered spot for prayer and meditation.
Apart from religious significance, Gomukh Glacier is a paradise for trekkers. The 18 km trek from Gangotri to Gomukh offers breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks, lush valleys, and unique Himalayan flora and fauna. Whether for spirituality or adventure, visiting Gomukh is an experience like no other.
