Golconda Fort, located about 11 kilometres from Hyderabad city in Telangana, is one of the most famous historical places in South India. It was built in the 16th century and served as the capital of the Golconda Sultanate, a strong kingdom known for its wealth and power. The fort was an important centre for trading diamonds, including some of the world’s most famous diamonds like the Koh-i-Noor.
Many travellers include the Golconda Fort in their South India tour packages because of its rich history and impressive architecture. The fort is very large, with walls stretching over 10 kilometres. It is built on rocky hills, which gave it a strong defence against enemies. Inside the fort, you will find old palaces, mosques, gardens, and watchtowers. One special feature of the Golconda Fort is its amazing sound system. If someone claps at the main entrance, the sound travels to the top of the fort, which was used to send messages and warnings during ancient times.
Today, the Golconda Fort is a popular place for tourists who want to see the history, architecture, and natural beauty. It is also a great place to learn about India’s royal past and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding city and hills.
Golconda Fort is open every day from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. The entry fee is ₹25 for Indian visitors and ₹300 for foreign tourists. The sound and light show usually starts around 6:30 PM, and there is a separate ticket for it, costing ₹75 for Indians and ₹200 for foreigners. It is better to check the latest timings before visiting.
