About Gitgit Waterfall

Gitgit Waterfall (locally called Air Terjun Gitgit) is one of Bali’s most iconic, historic, and spectacular natural attractions. Located in the lush highlands of North Bali, it stands at an impressive height of roughly 35 to 48 metres, cascading down into a refreshing, swimmable natural plunge pool enclosed by dense tropical rainforest. First opened to the public in 1939 by the Dutch colonial government, it holds the legacy of being one of the island's earliest established tourist destinations.

Travellers exploring northern regions through longer Bali tour packages often stop at Git Git Waterfall while travelling between Lovina, Bedugul, and central Bali routes. Since the visit usually takes less than two hours, it fits well into day itineraries without needing extensive trekking or full-day planning.

Significance of Git Git Waterfall

Git Git Waterfall represents the quieter and greener side of Bali, away from the island’s crowded beach zones and nightlife-focused tourism. The waterfall remains active throughout most of the year due to the surrounding rainforest climate, making it one of northern Bali’s more reliable natural attractions. Its setting, surrounded by dense vegetation and constant mist, creates a cooler microclimate compared to southern Bali.

Best Time to Visit Git Git Waterfall

The best time to visit Gitgit Waterfall in Bali is during the dry season (April to October), specifically in the early morning between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM.
