About Chang La Pass

Chang La Pass, located at an altitude of approximately 17,586 feet, is one of the highest motorable passes in the world. Situated in Ladakh, it lies on the way to Pangong Tso and connects Leh with the Changthang Plateau. The name "Chang La" means "Pass towards the South" and it is known for its steep climbs, snow-covered roads, and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Maintained by the Indian Army due to its strategic importance, the pass also has a small temple and café for travelers. Visitors often stop here to enjoy the breathtaking scenery and the thrill of high-altitude travel.
