Baratang Island

Baratang Island is located between South and Middle Andaman. It is not very well known, but it’s a hidden gem waiting to be explored. This beautiful island is home to some of the most amazing natural wonders in the Andaman Islands, including the only active mud volcanoes in India.

What makes Baratang Island truly special are its limestone caves and thick mangrove creeks. These caves were formed over millions of years and attract travellers who love nature and adventure. Baratang Island also has historical importance. In the 1980s, researchers found ancient cave paintings and artefacts showing that people lived here thousands of years ago. Today, it is home to the Jarawa tribe, who continue to live traditionally and preserve their unique culture.

There is no specific entry fee to visit Bartang Island. However, you will need to obtain a permit from the local authorities, which can be arranged by a tour operator or at the local government office in Port Blair.
