The Bali Swing is one of Indonesia’s most famous tourist attractions, featuring massive jungle swings suspended high over lush valleys, rivers, and canyons. While the original park is located just outside Ubud, “Bali Swing” has become a collective term for numerous similar photo-centric swing installations across the island. The original and most well-known site sits in Bongkasa Pertiwi village, roughly 20 minutes from central Ubud, while other swings run along the Tegallalang ridge to the north.
What started as one park around 2016 has expanded into a full circuit of competing venues, each offering a mix of swings, human-sized bird nests, jungle photo platforms, and lunch packages. It has become so famous that there are no Bali tour packages that do not include the Bali Swing around Ubud.
Importance of Bali Swing
Bali Swing parks have become one of the most photographed activities on the island, consistently driving the kind of social media reach that Ubud's older cultural attractions rarely generate. For the local economy in the Tegallalang and Bongkasa areas, the swing industry has created direct employment for hundreds of villagers as it needs swing operators, safety staff, photographers, and dress-rental attendants.
For international visitors, Bali Swing has elevated Ubud's position as an adventure and photography destination beyond temples and rice terraces alone.
History of Bali Swing
The first commercial swing park in Bali opened in Bongkasa Pertiwi around 2015 - 2016, built over the Ayung River valley by a local operator who attached large wooden swings to trees on a steep jungle slope. The concept was simple, but the photographs it produced spread globally within months. Within two years, several competing parks opened along the Tegallalang ridge.
By 2019, Bali Swing had moved from a niche activity to a standard item on Bali trips. Since then, the circuit has expanded further and further.
Best Time to Visit Bali Swing
The best time to visit the Bali Swing is between April and October (the dry season), specifically early in the morning from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM. This combination ensures clear skies, comfortable weather, optimal lighting for photography, and the shortest wait times to get on the swings.
The original Bali Swing in Bongkasa Pertiwi is 15 km from central Ubud (20–25 min). Tegallalang swing parks are 10 km from Ubud (20 min). A private taxi to any Bali Swing costs somewhere around ₹800 to ₹1,350. A free shuttle runs from the Ubud Palace area to the original Bali Swing park with timings 9:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 3:00 PM.
