Leh Ladakh Tour Packages from Amritsar

Of all the cities in India, Amritsar sits in one of the most geographically privileged positions for a Ladakh trip. You are already in Punjab — in the same northern belt that connects through Pathankot, Jammu, and Srinagar toward Ladakh. The Srinagar-Leh Highway is the oldest and most consistently open road into Ladakh, and Amritsar sits at its natural starting end. No other major Indian city can say the same. Viacation's Leh Ladakh tour packages from Amritsar are built around this specific geography — giving you options that travellers from South India or the Deccan simply don't have.

Amritsar is at an altitude of 234 metres. Leh is at 3,524 metres. That gap matters, but the road route from Amritsar through Jammu, Srinagar, and Kargil to Leh gains altitude gradually over two days, which is one of the safest ways to enter Ladakh for acclimatization. Compare that to flying directly from Amritsar to Leh, where you arrive at 3,524m with no transition time. Both options exist, and Viacation offers both, but the road option from Amritsar is more accessible here than from almost any other city in India.

How to Reach Leh Ladakh from Amritsar

Amritsar has two practical routes to Ladakh — a genuine advantage that most Indian cities don't have:

Route 1 – By Road via Jammu and Srinagar (NH-44 to NH-1)

This is the grand overland route from the Golden Temple city to the roof of the world. Amritsar to Jammu is approximately 210 km (4–5 hours). From Jammu, you take NH-44 to Srinagar (290 km, 7–8 hours) — a well-serviced highway with multiple petrol stops and food options. Spend 1–2 nights in Srinagar, then drive the Srinagar-Leh Highway (NH-1) over 2 days with an overnight halt at Kargil. Arrive in Leh on Day 4 or 5 of your journey. The total road distance from Amritsar to Leh is approximately 730 km. This route opens by late March to early April each year — the earliest of any road access into Ladakh.

Route 2 – By Flight via Delhi

Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport (ATQ) connects to Delhi, and from Delhi, you fly to Leh (IXL). Total travel time is 4–6 hours, including the Delhi layover. This is the right choice if you're short on leave and want to maximize time in Ladakh rather than on the road. Viacation coordinates both routings based on your available days and what kind of experience you want the journey itself to be.

Route 3 – Manali Road via Delhi (for Road Enthusiasts)

Amritsar travellers who want the Manali-Leh Highway experience — crossing Baralacha La (4,890m) and Tanglang La (5,360m) — can drive or take a bus to Delhi, connect to Chandigarh and Manali, and ride the highway to Leh. This route opens between May 15–25 and is ideal for bikers and road-trip groups. Viacation's Ladakh bike trip package covers this format in detail.

Leh Ladakh Tour Packages from Amritsar – What Viacation Offers

1. 8 Nights / 9 Days – Kashmir + Ladakh Overland

This is Viacation's most popular format for Amritsar travellers and the one that takes full advantage of your location. Drive from Amritsar to Jammu, onwards to Srinagar (2 nights at Dal Lake), then the NH-1 road to Leh via Kargil (overnight at Kargil). Arrive in Leh on Day 5, having already experienced Kashmir's valley and the dramatic Srinagar-Leh Highway. Days 6–9 cover the Ladakh circuit: Leh sightseeing, Nubra Valley via Khardung La, Pangong Lake, and return to Leh. Fly home from Leh on Day 9. This is the trip that uses your Amritsar geography properly.

7 Nights / 8 Days – Classic Ladakh (Fly from Amritsar)

Fly ATQ → DEL → IXL. Day 1 is full rest in Leh. Day 2: Leh local sightseeing. Days 3–4: Nubra Valley via Khardung La, Diskit Monastery, Hunder Sand Dunes. Days 5–6: Pangong Lake via Shyok Valley. Day 7: Return to Leh. Day 8: Fly home. The fast-transit option for Amritsar professionals who want the Ladakh experience without the overland journey.

10 Nights / 11 Days – Extended Ladakh with Tso Moriri

For those who want to go beyond Pangong, this itinerary extends south to Tso Moriri Lake (4,522m) and the Changthang Plateau. Combined with the Amritsar overland start, this becomes one of the most comprehensive Himalayan journeys available from any city in India. Also explore our Hanle and Umling La extended circuit for the most remote Ladakh experience.

Key Sights on an Amritsar to Ladakh Package

When you travel overland from Amritsar, you pass through a sequence of landscapes and landmarks that a direct-flight package entirely skips:

  1. Golden Temple, Amritsar: Most travellers build in a final visit before departure — the starting point of this entire journey.
  2. Dal Lake, Srinagar: Houseboats, shikaras, the Mughal Gardens, and Shankaracharya Temple. Two nights here changes the tone of the trip before Ladakh begins.
  3. Kargil War Memorial, Drass: 3 km from Drass town on the Srinagar-Leh Highway. Documents the 1999 conflict with solemn detail.
  4. Lamayuru Monastery: One of Ladakh's oldest monasteries, positioned dramatically on eroded cliffs with the 'moonland' landscape behind it.
  5. Alchi Monastery: 10th-century Buddhist monastery with rare surviving wall paintings. On the bank of the Indus River.
  6. Nubra Valley & Diskit Monastery: The cold desert circuit — sand dunes, double-humped camels, and a 32-metre Maitreya Buddha statue.
  7. Pangong Lake (4,350m): The defining visual of Ladakh. 134 km long, electric blue, partly in China.

Best Time for a Ladakh Trip from Amritsar

May to September is the standard window, but Amritsar travellers have access to an earlier start because the Srinagar-Leh Highway opens by late March to early April — weeks before the Manali-Leh Highway. This means April and May trips are possible for Amritsar travellers via the Srinagar route while the rest of India is still waiting for the Manali side to clear. September is the best overall month for weather and crowd balance. Winter in Ladakh (November to March) closes the highways but Ladakh by flight is possible for Chadar Trek planning.
