About Swoyambhu Mahachaitya

Swoyambhu Mahachaitya, commonly known as Swayambhunath or the Monkey Temple, is one of the oldest and most revered religious sites in Nepal. Located atop a hill in the Kathmandu Valley, this ancient stupa is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a sacred place for both Buddhists and Hindus. The white dome and golden spire are adorned with the watchful eyes of the Buddha, symbolizing wisdom and compassion. Visitors climb a long staircase to reach the shrine, where they are greeted by fluttering prayer flags, spinning prayer wheels, and playful monkeys. Swayambhunath offers spiritual peace and panoramic views of Kathmandu city.
